5 Small Ways to Add Calm to Your Day (Even with Kids Around)
Let’s be honest: Peace and quiet aren’t always realistic when you’ve got little ones running around or itching for your attention. But I’ve found that adding small moments of calm into the day makes a big difference, even if the rest of life is still a bit of a juggle.
Here are a few things that help me feel better, even on the busiest days:
1. Light a candle in the morning
Before the day gets going, I light a candle in the kitchen while the coffee machine runs. It’s simple, but it sets the tone. Something about a candle helps me ease into the day, instead of being thrown into it. (If you haven’t met the Mischief Candle yet, it’s a good place to start 😉).
2. Choose one corner to tidy, not the whole house
Trying to clean the whole house while parenting? Nope. But clearing off one table, fluffing a cushion, or folding a blanket can shift the whole mood of a room, and your emotion with it.
3. Get dressed (even if you’re not going anywhere)
You don’t need to go full glam, but throwing on something you love, especially when it’s comfy, can help you feel better. When I look good, I feel good! It’s why I stock pieces that are easy to wear.
4. Step outside, even for five minutes
Whether it’s the back garden or a walk to the postbox, fresh air helps. No need to make it a big deal. Just get your face in the sun (or rain, this is Scotland after all).
5. Make space for something just for you
This doesn’t need to be long or deep. It could be a cup of tea, a podcast in your headphones while the kids play, or a scroll through a favourite shop (no pressure). Give yourself that moment without guilt!
None of these things are groundbreaking, but when you’re stretched thin, they matter. I’m all about making room for small joys that help you reconnect with yourself.
If any of these hit home, I’d love to know what your go-to “calm” moment looks like.
